August Meves died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Gutenberger, last Friday, June 20th, at the age of eighty years, two months and thirteen days, old age being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24th, at the home of his daughter, Brother Petrem of Wausau officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery.

The pallbearers were his six grand sons - Steward Gutenberger of Milan, Elroy Gutenberger of Colby, Allen Gutenberger of Milwaukee, Niles Meves of Sheboygan and Rudie Schoelzel of Maple Grove. The flower girls were Mrs. Elroy Gutenberger, Mrs. Rudie Schoelzel, Nelda Kattre, Mrs. George Flonser. Reta Gutenberger and June Schoelzel.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Dr. Edward Meves of Milwaukee, Allen Gutenberger of Milwaukee, Mrs. Bertha Meves, Niles Meves and Wm. Thiel, all of Sheboygan.

The deceased was born in Sheboygan on April 7th, 1850, and came to this locality twenty-one years ago and settled on a wild track of land near Milan which he built into a splendid farm. He is survived by three children, namely: Mrs. A. Gutenberger of Colby, Mrs. Wm. Kattre of Milan, Dr. Edward Meves of Milwaukee.

He was a man of excellent habits, fine moral character and he continued to be active in his accustomed pusuits til long past the age at which men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers for he attended to his farm until about a year ago when he started to live with his daughters.
