Beilfuss, Wayne #2 (22 MAR 1913 - 24 DEC 1935)

Wayne Beilfuss, Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.) youth, became the second victim of Monday night’s auto smashup on Highway 10 when he died of injuries about 6:30 o’clock Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1935, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Beilfuss suffered a fractured skull and other severe injuries in the crash in which his companion, Joseph Welsh, was instantly killed. The accident occurred late Monday afternoon when the cars driven by Welsh and Emil F. Mech, Marshfield, side-swiped just west of Nasonville on Highway 10.

The inquest into the death of Welsh has been adjourned and will probably be extended to include the death of Beilfuss, it was stated today.

Mech’s condition was reported as grave by authorities at St. Joseph’s Hospital today. He has a severe scalp laceration, fractured ribs, and possible internal injuries, in addition to minor injuries. His wife was only slightly injured.

Officials who investigated the accident state that the speedometer of Mech’s car stuck at 81 miles an hour, and Welsh’s at 40.

Funeral services for Beilfuss will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Schiller Funeral Home, Neillsville, and burial will be made in the Neillsville Cemetery. The Rev. P.B. White will officiate.

Wayne was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Beilfuss. He was born March 22, 1913, at Withee, and graduated from Neillsville High School with the class of 1931.

He was a junior in the University of Wisconsin law school at the time of his death.

In addition to his parents he is survived by one brother, Bruce, and one sister, Bonnie.
