Mellenthin, Elsie L. (23 Aug. 1896 - 23 Dec. 1981)

Spencer, Wis. - Mrs. Elsie L. Mellenthin, 85, Spencer, died Wednesday evening at the Colonial House of Colby.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer, with the Rev. David J. Ault, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rux Funeral Home in Spencer.

The former Elsie L. Schroeder was born Aug. 23, 1896 at Beaver Dam to Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Hannah Priebe) Schroeder. She was married to Albert H. Mellenthin Oct. 18, 1916 at the Veefkind church. He died Aug. 30, 1960.

The couple farmed in the town of Unity until October of 1952, when they moved to Spencer.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and LWML.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Eleanor) Luepke, Spencer, and Mrs. John (Shirley) Yelich, Milwaukee; four sons, Raymond, Rockford, Ill., Oscar, Beaver Dam, Gordon, Colby, and Wilbur, Route 1, Unity; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Linda) Krahn, Loyal, and Miss Frieda Schroeder, Neillsville; two brothers, Roy Schroeder, Loyal, and Bert Schroeder, San Jose, Calif., 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, a brother, a grandson and a granddaughter.
