Manthe, Laura (18 Oct. 1900 - 31 Oct. 1998)

Laura Manthe, 98, of 814 W. 14 St., died at the Marshfield Center where she had been a resident for the last four years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield. The Rev. Robert Brandt will officiate. Music will be provided by Jolene Albert, organist and William Allen, soloist.

Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Relatives of Laura’s will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Hansen’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

She was born Oct. 18, 1900, in Spencer, the daughter of August and Helen (Cammers) Schwantes. She was married to Otto A. Manthe on Oct. 6, 1920, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1970.

Laura was educated in Spencer and town of Brighton schools. After her education she was a telephone operator and did waitress work at the Christianson Café in Spencer. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Unity township. They were members of St. John’s North Lutheran Church where she was a Ladies Aid member and served as president of their organization. She also was a member of the Spencer Women’s Club. The Manthes sold the farm in 1951 and moved to Marshfield.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield, its Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also was a member of Marshfield Senior Citizens and the 60 Club.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband on Oct. 24, 1981; by two daughters in infancy; two brothers, Alvin and Emil Schwantes, her sister, Myrtle Greeler, and by her parents.

Memorials may be designated in her name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
