Brown, James C. (11 OCT 1867 - 3 MAR 1933)

James Clinton Brown of the town of Butler (Clark Co., Wis.), was born at Richland Center, Wis., Oct. 11th, 1867, and died at Madison, Wis., Mar. 3rd, 1933, at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 20 days, the immediate cause of his death being bronchial pneumonia.

When he was about four years of age he came with his parents to Eau Claire and settled on a farm near Augusta, where he grew to manhood. On Jan. 7th, 1891, he was united in marriage to Christena Butler, who preceded him in death Feb. 4th, 1913. One child was born to this union, Georgiana (now Mrs. Capp Collins of Thorp.)

On Jan. 17th, 1915, he again married. This time to Mrs. Etta Harrington. Six children were born to this union, Martha (now Mrs. Arlyn Decker of Thorp), James, Minnie, Cora and Agnes of Boyd, Wis.; one son, Nathan, having passed away Dec. 15th, 1924.

Besides his children he leaves to mourn his departure, five grandchildren, Edna, Margaret, Nancy and Raymond Collins, and little Jimmy Decker, who was born after his grandfather had been confined to the hospital; two sisters, Mrs. W.C. butler of Thorp, and Mrs. Cora Trimble of Webb City, Missouri, together with countless neighbors, friends and acquaintances.

Jim, as he was affectionately and familiarly known to his neighbors and friends, was a kind and loving father, ever ready to sacrifice his own wants for his children, and he was always ready, willing and anxious to help anyone who might be in need, regardless of his own immediate wants. His passing will leave a vacancy among us that will long be felt and never quite filled.

The funeral service was held a the home in Butler at ten o’clock Monday morning, Rev. Bickel of Owen, officiating, and interment taking place in the East Thorp Cemetery.
