Bruss, Valda Anna (Marriage - 5 May 1945)

Miss Valda Anna Bruss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Bruss of the town of Brighton, became the bride of Gerhard F. Ziehlsdorf of Spencer, son of the Rev. and Mrs. A. F. Ziehlsdorf of Neillsville, in a ceremony read in St. John’s Evangelical church in North Spencer, May 5, at 2 p.m. The Rev. H. C. Hinz officiated, and Mrs. Alfred Oelrich, sister of the groom, played the wedding marches, Miss Lorraine Zettler, a cousin of the bride, dressed in a pink marquisette formal frock sang "O Perfect Love." The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a white wedding gown. The lace bodice fitted snugly and was distinguished with a V neckline and bracelet length sleeves. The full net skirt was ballerina style. A long veil of illusion trimmed with lace was caught to an orange blossom crown wore by her grandmother 50 years ago, and she carried a white handkerchief, a gift of a friend. Her grandmother’s wedding ring and pin and a borrowed blue ribbon completed her attire and she carried white gardenias and swansonia. Miss Florence Bruss, a sister of the bride, as maid of honor, wore an aqua marquisette frock and a corsage of yellow asters and white gardenias, while Miss Vernice Oelrich of Spencer, a niece of the groom, as bridesmaid, chose an identical frock in pink. Her flowers were pink asters and white gardenias. Maynard Wachholz of Milwaukee, a cousin of the groom, and Elmer Bruss, brother of the bride, served as groomsmen. George Zuelke and William Schweke ushered.

Following the wedding ceremony a supper for 36 guests was held at the Bruss home where the dining room was decorated with white, aqua and pink streamers and a large wedding cake formed the centerpiece at the table. A reception followed after which the couple left on a wedding trip to Milwaukee. For traveling, the bride wore an RAF blue suit with white and brown accessories. The couple is now at home to friends in Spencer.

Mr. Ziehlsdorf is a truck driver for the Dairy Belt and his bride had been employed by Allis Chambers at West Allis for the past two and a half years.

Guests were the Rev. and Mrs. Ziehlsdorf, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bruss of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. George Zuelke and family of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Oelrich and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schweke and Clifford, Mrs. Donald Prehn and Diane, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wachholz and the Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Stapel, the Rev. H. C.
