Violand, Oscar P. (25 DEC 1869 - 15 JAN 1933)

Funeral services for Oscar Violand Sr. were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Violand home on the Herbert Baehr farm, one mile south of the village, with Rev. Lester Thiel officiating. Burial took place in the Peace Cemetery with Rudolph Ortleib, O.W. Kalepp Jr., Arnold and Herbert Baehr, Dell Winchell and Raymond Krakenberger acting as pallbearers. Music was furnished by Mesdames A. Herman, R.G. Krakenberger and Wm. Copeland.

Mr. Violand passed away very suddenly Sunday evening at the farm home. As he had not been ill previously his death was a severe shock to his family and to the community.

Oscar Phillip Violand was born December 25, 1869 in Zurich, Switzerland and was 63 years and 21 days old at time of death. When he was 19 years of age he came to the United States and settled in Milwaukee. On June 9, 1894 Mr. Violand was united in marriage to Miss Mary Busse at Milwaukee. To this happy union four children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Violand came to Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) with his son and family from Milwaukee last March and opened the Violand Craft Shop in the Krakenberger building.

Besides his wife Mr. Violand leaves one daughter, Eleanor, Mrs. Elmer Hapfer, Milwaukee, one son, Oscar, Dorchester, a sister, Mrs. Augusta Steinke of North Dakota, three grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews to mourn his sudden departure. We join with the friends in extending condolence and sympathy to the bereaved in their hour of sorrow.

Those from out of town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hapfer, Mr. Busse Sr. and Mr. Buss Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Bratz, Milwaukee.
