Alvin S. Evenson Dies Friday, May 12

Was Born in Unity and Had Been Located in Hiles for Some Time; Funeral Held at Crandon Monday Afternoon

Alvin S. Evenson, who has been ill for the past 16 months, passed away at 10:55 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield on May 12, 1944. He was born on May 7, 1895 at Unity, Wis. He received his education in the Unity graded and high schools and also the business college at Wausau. After his graduation he accepted a position as bookkeeper for Foster Mueller Lumber Co. of Hiles, and made his home in that village until the time of his death. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1918 to Veronica Harkins at Crandon. To this union three children were born, two sons and a daughter. The sons died in infancy and his mother preceded him in death four weeks ago. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Verona; his daughter, Mrs. Tom (Helen) Hansen of Hiles; one brother, Martin E. Evenson of Unity; one sister, Mrs. Ralph (Lillie) Davis of Redmond, Oregon, and two grandchildren, Patricia and Michael Hansen of Hiles. At the time of his death Mr. Evenson was postmaster and also kept a general store at Hiles. He was a member of the Masonic order at Crandon.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Reese & Rusch Funeral Home at Crandon and burial at the Lakeside cemetery. Mr. Evenson was a great sportsman. Nothing he liked better than to take his gun and prowl the woods or his fishing rod and go fishing. Many a yarn he could tell about his experiences he had in the great out of doors. Everyone that knew him loved him for his good kind deeds.

Rev. Fred Meske of Marshfield had charge of the funeral service and the Masonic lodge conducted the services at the grave. The pall bearers were members of the Mason lodge. The six nieces carried the floral offerings. Unity friends attending the services were Mrs. Roy Hudson and mother Mrs. Nancy Kops, Mrs. Harold Runge, Mrs. Sam Stark and Mrs. Elmer Langjahr.
