Lawrence, Asa (1857? - 9 July 1934)

Last Sunday, J. W. Lawrence received a letter from his sister of Springfield, Ill., stating that a cablegram was received giving notice of the death of their brother Asa, at Panama, on July 9th. Burial was in one of the military cemeteries of the Canal Zone.

Mr. Lawrence was 77 years of age. He was a native of Manitowoc County, this state. At the opening of the Spanish American War he enlisted in the army and at its close he re-enlisted in the regular army, serving until his retirement, with the rank of quartermaster-sergeant. Most of his service was in the Canal Zone, and he has resided there since his discharge. The last time he was in the states was ten years ago, spending several months here.

Surviving are a daughter at Springfield, Ill., a son at Madison, and his sister and brother.
