Crash Causes Death of Withee Man

Fred Paulsen, 20 year old son of Mrs. Paul Paulsen, residing two miles north west of Withee, died at the St. Joseph hospital at Chippewa Falls, Sunday morning, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday.

Paulsen, who was in the employ of the Altenburg Auto Co., Withee, as a mechanic, had left his work in the shop to go to Thorp, where he was to get some auto parts, and return. Before leaving, he made a wager that he could go to Thorp and return in fifteen minutes on his motorcycle, and it was while driving at a speed of more than 90 miles an hour that he crashed into a farm wagon, as he was rounding a curve, on his return home. When striking the wagon he slid with his motorcycle for a distance of more than a hundred feet along the highway. He suffered a compound fracture of his right thigh and multiple fracture of his right leg just below the knee in addition to internal injuries. He was immediately removed to the hospital at Chippewa Falls where he was given the best medical aid possible to save his life. He had been in the employ of the Altenburg Auto Co. for some time and was a young man well liked by all with whom he came in contact. He is survived by his mother and three brothers, Hans, Martin and Chris.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home and at 2:30 o'clock from the Danish Lutheran church at Withee, with interment taking place in the family lot of the church cemetery.
