Free, Elizabeth (27 Nov. 1862 - 21 Nov. 1940)

Mrs. William Free, mother of Mrs. W. E. Waters, died in Iola, Kansas, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Babcock, on Thursday morning, Nov. 21. Mrs. Free, who had suffered from heart affection for sometime, had been ill but was apparently on the way to a recovery from the attack when the end came. She had gone to Kansas with her daughter in the fall, expecting to spend the winter months there. The body was returned to Neillsville Saturday, accompanied by her daughter and granddaughter from Iola.

Funeral services were held at Neillsville Saturday afternoon, those from here attending were Mr. and Mrs. Waters, their son and daughter, Wayland and Miss Genevieve, who came from Madison, Mrs. Fowler, Miss Alice Fowler, Mrs. Bertha Stallard and Edmund Noyes.

Mrs. Free, who was the mother of twelve children, eleven of whom survive, would have been 78 years old on Nov. 27. She was a native of Canada, and had lived in Neillsville since 1883. There are twenty-three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

*First name was taken from the spouse’s obituary and the Neillsville Cemetery Index.
