Dunn, Etsel (28 Sept. 1864 - 17 Nov. 1940)

Etsel Dunn, son of James and Mary Dunn, pioneer settlers, was born in the town of Garden Valley in Jackson County, on Sept. 28, 1864. He grew to manhood, and with the exception of five years spent in Burnett County, lived his entire life in Garden Valley and vicinity, following the occupation of farmer.

On Dec. 31, 1913, Mr. Dunn was united in marriage with Miss Lois Terrell, of the town of Cleveland, and since that time his home has been on the Terrell home farm in Cleveland.

For the past few years he had been in failing health, and last week was taken to the hospital at Black River Falls for care and treatment, where he passed peacefully away in the early evening hours of Nov. 17th, having attained the age of 76 years, 1 month and 19 days.

Mr. Dunn is survived by his widow; one sister, Mrs. Charles Helwig, of Danbury; and two brothers, Harvey Dunn, of Martinville, Minn.; and Fred Dunn, of the town of Garden Valley. A twin brother, Ed, died seven years ago last May. Mourning his death are also a number of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Pierstorff using as a text for his sermon Job 5:26, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season." Rev. and Mrs. Pierstorff sang: "Nearer, My God, to Thee," "The City Four-square," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Numerous relatives and old neighbors’ assembled for the last rites. Burial was in Houghtonburg Cemetery.
