Elisabeth Duerr, one of a family of twelve children, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Duerr at Wheatland, Clinton County, Iowa, on November 11, 1859.

There her childhood and younger years were spent. She was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed faith of which she was a life long member, being also one of the charter members of the Frauen Verein of the local St. John’s Congregations, and taking active part as long as her health permitted.

On August 27th, 1893, she was united in marriage with Mr. Jacob Baumgartner, at Harbine, Nebr. To this union one daughter was born.

They made their home in eastern Iowa, near Wheatland for several years and then lived for eight years in Kossuth County in Western Iowa. In the spring of 1906 they came to the vicinity of Humbird, which has since been her home.

It was her fate to be physically afflicted from childhood to old age, suffering many severe illnesses and misfortunes. Following a stroke, her frail body was released from all suffering and pain on Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 1940, having attained the age of 80 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Caroline Greub; one grandson, Louis Greub; all of Humbird; one sisters, Mrs. Florntine Wiese, of Meadow Grove, Nebr.; two brothers, Louis Duerr, of Pierson, Iowa, and George Duerr, of Larchwood, Iowa; together with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the home of St. John’s Church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, attended by a large congregation of relatives and friends. Rev. V. D. Weidler, pastor of the church, assisted Rev. W. Bixler, of Neillsville and Rev. Edward Mohr, of Alma. Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.

Relatives and friends coming from away to attend the funeral were: Mrs. Florntine Wiese, of Meadow Grove, Nebr.; Miss Mildred Osborn, R. N., Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hoegger and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Brodseth, of Rice Lake; Mr. and Mrs. John Baumgartner, son Walter and granddaughter Dorothy, of Colby; Mrs. Barbara Kueubeuhl and Fred Greub, of Davis, Ill.; Wm. Greub, Miss Otillia Bindschaedler and Mrs. Lloyd Staffon, of Monroe; Rev. and Mrs. Edward Mohr, of Alma; J. J. Baumgartner; Mrs. R. A.
