Selz, Theresia (28 Jan. 1867 - 24 April 1940)

Theresia Schips was born Jan. 28, 1867, at Hoenberg, Wurtemburg, Germany. In her early life she immigrated to this country, and on Nov. 15, 1888, she was united in marriage at Cincinnati, with Mr. Ferdinand Selz. Their home was in Cincinnati for a short while, and then moving to Petford, Calhoun County, Michigan.

The family came to Wisconsin in 1898, locating in Fairview vicinity, residing on the farm at the old Cotton School corners since 1904. Mr. Selz preceded his wife in death on Nov. 1, 1927.

Death came unexpectedly to Mrs. Selz at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire at 6:40 Wednesday evening, April 24, 1940. She was recovering from a major operation, and expected to leave the hospital that evening or the next day to go to her son’s home in that city for convalescence. A sudden heart attack came from which she did not rally. Mrs. Selz was 73 years, 2 months and 24 days in age.

To Mr. and Mrs. Selz were born nine children, two daughters and seven sons; Richard, of Cincinnati; Frank and Mrs. Alfred Kunz of Fennimore; Leo, of Warrens; Louis and Mrs. Dominic Machnick, of Eau Claire; Herman, who lives on a farm near the home place, and Ferdinand and Joseph at home. There are thirty-seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Selz was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Congregation of Fairview, and was a charter member of St. Anne’s Altar society of the church.

Funeral services were held at her late home at 9:00 and at the Fairview church at 9:30 last Saturday morning. Owing to illness of Rev. J. J. Sheridan, the Rev. Fr. Peters, of Black River Falls, officiated. Burial was in the church Cemetery. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers: Will Werner, Raymond, Louis and Leo Selz, and Benedic Kunz.
