Accola, Elizabeth (30 July 1855 - 5 Aug. 1938)

Elizabeth Hottman was born in Switzerland July 30, 1855, coming to America with her parents at the age of six weeks. They settled at Arena, in this state, where she grew to womanhood. At the age of twenty five years, she was married to Jacob Accola, and they resided near Arena for several years, removing to the town of Prairie du Sac, in Sauk County, in 1889. To this union eight children were born, three of whom preceded their mother in death. Her husband died in 1898.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Steuber, of Prairie du Sac, and Mrs. Clara Scholze, Humbird; and three sons, Ben, of Lodi, Oswald, of Pittsville, and Victor, of Wisconsin Rapids, and twenty-one grandchildren. Also three half brothers, William and Joseph, of Arena, and Rudolph, of Mellette, S. Dakota; and one half sister, Mrs. Nellie Slough, of Sauk Rapids, Minn.

Of late years she made her home with her children, residing with her daughter, Mrs. Theodore A. Scholze, near Humbird, the past two years, where she passed away after two weeks of illness Friday morning, August 5, 1938, at the age of 83 years and 6 days. The deceased had been in failing health the past year.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at her former, home at Prairie du Sac, six of her grandsons acting as pallbearers: Jacob Accola, of Cedar Edge, Colo.; Donald Accola, of Pittsville, Louis and Clarence Scholze, Humbird, and Virgil and Sylvan Steuber, of Prairie du Sac. Interment was in Sauk City Cemetery beside her husband.
