Gloden, Elizabeth (23 NOV 1854 -27 FEB 1937)

Mrs. Elizabeth Gloden, whose death occured in a hospital at Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday evening, Feb. 27th, a few hours following an automobile accident, was a native of Prussia. She was born Elizabeth Melchior, on Nov. 23, 1854, in Foehren, Rheine, Prussia, and was one of a family of three children. She came to this country in 1881, with her father and brothers, stopping first at Madison. They were enroute to Dakota territory, but were persuaded to stop at Humbird, and this vicinity became their permanent home. She was united in holy wedlock with Math Gloden, and to this union two daughters were born. Mr. Gloden passed away in Humbird Feb. 27, 1905. From 1909 until 1914, Mrs. Gloden and her daughters lived in Defiance, Ohio, where she was housekeeper for Rev. Fr. Gloden, a brother of her late husband. Returning to this village they remained for about ten years. Since that time she had been at Toledo, Ohio, where her daughters reside.

Mrs. Gloden is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Krotz and Miss Cecelia M. Gloden, and one brother, Peter Melchior of Fairchild. One brother, Fred Melchior preceded her in death. Her passing is mourned by a number of other relatives in Fairview vicinity and in Fairchild.

Burial services where held at St. Joseph’s church at Fairview on Wednesday, March 3rd, and the remains were interred in the cemetery at the church. Mrs. Gloden attained the age of 81 years, 3 months and 4 days.
