THORP - James A. Schmitz, 75, of Thorp died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial will be in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Thorp Funeral Home. A combined parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

THORP - James Arthur Schmitz, 75, of Thorp died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at St. Bernard/St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial will be in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Thorp Funeral Home. A combined parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation also will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

He was born March 30, 1930, in Menomonee Falls to Albert and Kathryn (Holzem) Schmitz. Drafted into the U.S. Army on May 24, 1952, he served overseas during the Korean War. James was honorably discharged on May 2, 1953. He and Evie Mumper were united in marriage on Oct. 30, 1954, at St. James Catholic Church in Lannon. They moved to the Thorp area in 1967 and farmed in the town of Reseburg, retiring in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Evie, of Thorp; nine children, Kathleen Schmitz, Thorp, Mary (Michael) Panchyshyn, Champlin, Minn., Thomas Schmitz and Patrick (Renee) Schmitz, all of Sheboygan, Ann (Marvin) Haas, Thorp, John Schmitz (special friend, Karen Rammer), Sheboygan, Connie Schmitz, Thorp, Karen Schmitz, Sheboygan, and Judy (Daniel) Banie, Sheboygan; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Arthur) Magnusson, Slinger; and three brothers, the Rev. John Schmitz, Ripon, Jerry (Joyce) Schmitz, Watertown, and Donald Schmitz, Thayer, Mo.
