Donald A. Sauter

DORCHESTER - Donald A. Sauter, 90, Tomahawk, formerly of Dorchester, died Monday Oct. 31, 2005, at his home, where he was in hospice being cared for by his wife and his daughter, Cari.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday Nov. 4, 2005, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. Dennis Pegorsch will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of services Friday at the church.

Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Dorchester to Albert and Anna (Marquardt) Sauter. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dorchester, Wis. He attended St. Peter Parochial School, graduated from Dorchester High School in 1933 and attended Wausau Business College. Donald and Ruth Denzin were married June 25, 1938.

He worked side by side with his father, uncle Ed and cousin, Lavern, and they ran Sauter Bros. Inc. Feed Mill in Dorchester and Auburndale, and also an Arctic Cat snowmobile store in Abbotsford, Wis. He was on the board of directors of the Dorchester State Bank, which was founded in part by his grandfather, Herman Marquardt. He was a longtime member of the Dorchester Lions Club. Upon retirement, he spent winters in Florida and Arizona and summers were enjoyed at his Nokomis Lake home with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his wife, Ruth of Tomahawk; his children, Randolph (Cheryl) Sauter of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Barbara (Gerald) Van Slate of Wausau and Cari Sauter of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Erik John Gilley of Memphis, Tenn., Sean Patrick Gilley of Denver, Sharon Ann Van Slate of Milwaukee and John Michael Sauter of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and six great-grandchildren, Padraic, Liam, Aidan, Isabel, Megan and Treavor; a stepbrother, Arthur (Gret) Seidel of Kimberly; and a stepsister, Eleanor (Ed) Hollmann of Chilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Terry Allen; and a daughter, Sharon Ann Gilley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice Care or the American Cancer Society in Don's name.
