Bertha Marie Louise Seltrecht, nee Kaun, was born in West Prussia March 4, 1858. She was united in Holy wedlock with Wm. Carl Seltrecht in Germany in 1888. Eight children were born to this union. However, six of them, all sons, Fred, Herman, William, Gustav, John and Earl, preceded their mother and father in death.

After 40 years of married life together, Mr. Seltrecht passed away on May 28, 1928.

In the year 1889 the departed, together with her husband came to America, their first home being in Dubuque, Iowa, where they remained for several years. Thereafter a number of years were spent in Milwaukee until 1911, when they came to the town of Sherwood, Clark County. The home of the departed has been in various places in Clark County since that time, most recently in the town of Sherwood, with her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Lautenbach. Ailing for several years, she passed away Thursday morning, June 5, at about 6:30 o’clock at the age of 88 years, three months and one day.

Her departure is mourned by her two children, Mrs. Oscar Lautenbach, town of Sherwood, and William Seltrecht of Milwaukee, also by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Flower girls at the funeral were Lorraine Seltrecht, Geneva Lautenbach and Jeanne Haberman. The pallbearers were: Herman F. Schlinsog, Henry Schlinsog, Walter Schlinsog, Arthur Hillert, Arthur Lautenbach and Ed Lautenbach.

Funeral services were held at Granton on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the Gilbertson Funeral home, the Rev. A. H. Laesch officiating.
