Burrows, Ava (Marriage - 30 May 1941)

It was at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Burrows, of 1129 Summer Avenue, Fresno, Cal., that Miss Ave Burrows became the bride of Ernest E. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Wilson of Oberlin, Kan., at 2 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 30, 1941.

Thirty-five guests witnessed the double-ring ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. W. P. Rankin, pastor of the First Methodist church of Fresno, amid a lovely setting of white gladioli, white stock palms, ferns and candelabra. The bride was given away by her father.

Miss Burrows wore white mousse line de sole over taffeta and a veil. She carried orchids and bouvardia with a white Bible. The matron of honor, Miss Betty Lou Rowe, a cousin, of Riverside, Cal., wore pale blue velva ray. The streamers of her nosegay of pink roses hung to the floor. Donald Burrows, the bride’s brother, acted as best man.

The mother of the bride wore a gown of blue lace, the groom’s grandmother wearing black with white lace. Their flowers were gardenia and pink bouvardia.

Three hundred guests attended the reception with followed the ceremony. The home was decorated with white Shasta daisies, carnations, gladioli, stock and bouvardia. Musical numbers were played by Mrs. Marguerite Lorwood, pianist, and Frances Stanley, violinist, Vivienne Hanson acted as soloist.

The couple left for San Francisco on a few days’ honeymoon trip. For her going-away outfit, Mrs. Wilson wore a blue print dress, redingote style, and a navy blue coat with navy accessories.

The bride, who is employed in the office of the Fresno County superintendent of Schools, is a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Fresno State College. She is a member of Phi Sigma Delta sorority and sponsor of the primary and intermediate departments of the church school. She is the daughter of a former well known Neillsville couple whose courtship during their high school days in this city terminated in marriage here. Mrs. Burrows was the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rowe, her husband being a son of the late Rev. W. P. Burrows, for several years pastor of the Neillsville Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Burrows lived in Neillsville for several years after their marriage, later moving to Chicago, where the daughter, Ava, was born. After a few years spent in that city, the family moved to California.

Mr. Wilson was graduated from the Oberlin high school and Fresno State College. He is a member of the Blue Key fraternity and of the Students Christian association of Fresno State College. He is employed in the Y. M. C. A. Both young people are very active in the social and religious life in their community. They expect to attend the Pacific school of Religion at Berkeley this fall.

Out of town guests at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Rowe and daughter, Betty Lou, Riverside, Cal., R. E. Rowe, wife and son, Jack, Santa Ana, Cal., uncles of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. J. Foster, grandparents of the groom, Biola, Calf.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Foster, Delhi, Cal.; John Foster and Earl Foster, Oakland, Cal.; W. A. Curtiss, Hayward, Cal.; uncles and aunts of the groom, and Mrs. Robert Hansen of Morro Bay, Cal.
