Schultz, Martha (26 Nov. 1877 - 5 Jan. 1941)

Funeral services for Mrs. William Schultz, were held at the Schiller Funeral Home Sunday, January 5, at 2 p.m., Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the services. Miss Rachel Eide sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "Some Day We’ll Understand." The remains were laid at rest in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mrs. Schultz, (nee Martha Wagner) was born in the town of Pine Valley, November 26, 1877, to Fred and Minnie Wagner. She passed away at 11:25 a.m. January 2, 1941, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Free; where she had been cared for by a trained nurse assisted by the two daughters, since she left the hospital where she underwent a surgical operation several weeks ago. She had been a life-time resident of this community.

On the 30thd ay of October, 1901, she was united in marriage to William F. Schultz, also a resident of Pine Valley. They started housekeeping on the farm of his father, where they lived until the following spring when they moved to Neillsville, Mr. Schultz working in the furniture factory. Later, for many years, he was employed in the Neillsville Condensery.

Three children were born to them: Eva, Mrs. Roger Quilan; Viola, Mrs. Thomas Free, both of this city, and Irving, who passed away about two years ago. Also surviving are two grandchildren; Robert and June Free, three brothers and four sisters, Robert F., Albert and Ben Wagner, Mrs. Everett Raine, Mrs. Clyde Raine, Mrs. Arthur Haugen and Mrs. James Shummel, all of whom reside in this community and as closely were they united in their love for one another, meeting often as a happy group to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. The departure of Mrs. Schultz marks the first death in the family of eight. The loss was beautifully indicated by a floral piece representing the family and the missing sister.

Mrs. Schultz’s life was replete with unselfishness. In her home, which at all times was a model of cleanliness and beauty; she placed the happiness of her family above her own comfort; in the organization to which she belonged she was an untiring worker and as a neighbor and friend she was ever helpful and true.

The Royal Neighbor and Rebecca Lodges attended the rites in bodies.

Charles Poole, William H. White, George A. Ure, Charles White, N. F. Toptine and H. L. Albright, all members of the Odd Fellow Lodge, bore the remains to the last resting place.

Relatives from out of town, who were here for the funeral included: Frank Zimmerman, Mrs. Floyd Turrel, Mrs. Elsie Michael, Mrs. Lena Harris, Mrs. Ida Zimmerman; Hugh Turrel, Mrs. Earl Bemus, Mrs. Nina Stuve, Humbird; Mr. and Mrs. Sid Gower, Mr. and Mrs. Red Joas, Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Rhinart Zimmerman, and Miss Evelyn Zimmerman, Black River Falls.
