Free, Elizabeth Gertrude (27 Nov. 1862 - 21 Nov. 1940)

Elizabeth Gertrude Wilson was born in Cranbourne, Quebec, Canada, November 27, 1862. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Babcock, Iola, Kan., at 8 a.m. November 21, 1940, after an illness of about two weeks.

The body was brought to Neillsville and burial services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home Saturday, November 23, at 2 p.m., Rev. O. Asp officiating.

She was married to William Free, July 10, 1883, the couple coming immediately to Neillsville where her home has been ever since. Mr. Free died March 16, 1935. To the union were born 12 children: Wilson W. Free, Sheboygan; Richard P. Free, Withee; Beatrice (Mrs. W. E. Waters), Humbird; May (Mrs. G. F. St. Thomas), Marion (Mrs. Ross McCalvy), St. Paul, Minn.; Gladys (Mrs. Phil Zimmer), Thomas J. Free, and Helen (Mrs. M. L. Meyer), Neillsville; Beth (Mrs. R. D. Babcock), Iola, Kan.; Ruth (Mrs. Harry R. Zimmerman), Madelia, Minn.; and George C. Free, Hamilton, Mont. Walter died in infancy. Besides her children she is survived by 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and several brothers and sisters who still live in Canada.

Mrs. Free was possessed on a usually quite manner, devoting her life to the interests of her home and the early of her large family. Kindly and courteous, Mrs. Free was a delightful person, appearing at all times to see only the best in her neighbors and friends. Much to her credit also is the fact that she found the greatest pleasures of life within her household.

The relatives from out of town who were here for the funeral include: Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Free, Withee; Mrs. R. D. Babcock and daughter, Mildred, of Iola, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Zimmerman, Madelia, Minn.; Robert and Kathleen McCalvy, Mr. and Mrs. G.F. St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Waters, and two children, Wayland and Genevieve, Humbird.
