Potter, Frances (7 FEB 1890 - 30 NOV 1943)

A Requiem High Mass was read by the Rev. J.J. Novak for Miss Frances Potter, 53, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), Monday morning, Dec. 6, and serving as pallbearers were William McKenna, Arthur Syth, Leo Stanley, Earl Tompkins, Hugh Christie, Greenwood, and Linus Prock, Globe. Interment was made in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Miss Potter, who taught school in Portland, Ore., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1943, following an operation performed Nov. 27.

Frances Potter, daughter of William and Ellen Potter, was born Feb. 7, 1890, at Cambridge, Wis., and when she was eight years old she came to Greenwood with her parents, attending Eaton Center School and graduating from Greenwood High School in 1908.

She taught in Clark County schools for three years, then went to Oregon. After teaching three years in rural schools of that state, she was appointed to the city grades at Roseburg, Ore.

During the summer vacation and through correspondence she completed her teaching training at Monmouth, Ore., and was graduated from the University of Oregon with her master’s degree. In June 1923, she was appointed platoon librarian in the Kellogg School in the City of Portland, later holding the same position in the Portsmouth School, where she was teaching at the time of her death.

Rosary services were held in Portland Wednesday, and the body was accompanied here by Miss Mary Potter, a niece, who made her home with Miss Potter the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Her brother, William, on June 21, 1941, and by another brother, Joseph, in infancy. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Frank Plecity, Stanley; three brothers, Arthur of Chippewa Falls, Raymond of Rosemound, Calif., and Homer of Marshfield, and four nieces and nine nephews. Four of the nephews are in service.

People from out of town at the funeral were Mrs. Ernest Morris, Chicago; Miss Margaret Potter, Portland, Ore.; Mr.a nd Mrs. Arthur Potter, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Plecity, Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. James Potter, Chippewa Falls; Homer Potter and daughter, Mary Jane, Marshfield; and Miss Betty Melloh, Stanley.
