Oswald, Warren (24 MAY 1922 - 6 JUN 1943)

Pvt. Warren Oswald, 21, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) soldier, was killed in the field of battle somewhere in the North American area on June 6, 1943, according to a telegram received by his wife from the War Department.

Pvt. Oswald entered the service on Dec. 28, 1942, and spent four weeks in basic training with an infantry unit at Camp Wheeler, Ga. He was sent from there to Fort Ord, Calif., and left for the northern area last April 21.

Born to Albert and Violet Oswald at Sparta on May 24, 1922, Pvt. Oswald came to Greenwood with them in the spring of 1940, when they settled on the former Mike Hendrickson farm east of the city.

He was married on Aug. 30, 1941, to Lucille Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Olson of Greenwood, and she, with their son, Gary, 15 months old, survives him. He is also survived by his parents, a brother, Orville, at home and three sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Verna) Nolan, Greenwood; and Winifred and Shirley, at home.
