Gerber, Bertha Thoenen (31 July 1855 - 26 June 1931)

Bertha Thoenen Gerber, wife of Chris Gerber was born in Reutigen, Canton, Bern, Switzerland, July 31, 1855 and died June 26, 1931.

She spent the early years of her life with her parents in Switzerland. There she received her early school eduation and also her religious training, being brought in under the care of the church of her parents.

On Dec. 12, 1890 she was married to Mr. Chris. Gerber and a year later they came to America, settling at Blanchardville, Green county, Wisconsin. They lived there until 1914, at which time the family moved to the farm near Humbird, where the deceased lived until her death. Mrs. Gerber had reached the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 26 days.

She leaves to mourn her husband, and three children; Fred, from Madison; Mrs. Rose Stanley and Herman, both residing near Humbird.

Funeral services wer held at St. John’s Reformed church last Sunday afternoon, many neighbors and friends attending. Rev. V. D. Weidler preached the burial sermon. Interment was in Mentor cemetery.

Relatives and friends who came to pay the last respects of love and respect to this beloved mother and neighbor were: her son, Fred and wife and children, from Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Marty, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Way, Mr. and Mrs. G. Bigler, Mr. and Mrs. E. Hodel of Verona; Mr. and Mrs. M. Marty, Mrs. Susan Marty, Mr. and Mrs. A. Smith, of Mt. Vernon; Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Linder, of Tomah; and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Easterson, and Mr. O. Nelson, of Eau Claire.
