Zook, Jacob R. (1873? - 1930)
Jacob R. Zook, a lifelong resident of the town of Cleveland and this village (Humbird) died at the Jackson County Home at Black River Falls Monday night at the age of 57 years. Heart disease was the cause of his death. Mr. Zook had been ill for several months and had become quite feeble. As not to be a care to relatives he had gone to the home to spend his last days.
Mr. Zook, after his marriage, followed the occupation of farming having an excellent farm in the town of Cleveland. He was uniformly successful in this line.
Ten years ago, he disposed of the farm owing to impaired health and moved into the village, purchasing the hardware and implement business of Barkley & Washburn. In this line he was unfortunate, and disposing of the business he went to Minneapolis to work, the family moving to Augusta to reside.
The remains were taken to the family home at Augusta Wednesday, and Thursday morning were brought to St. Joseph’s church at Fairview for burial. Members of the Woodsmen, of which he was a member, were pallbearers: Fred Theiler, A. C. Rosolack, M. Kretschmer, Peter Breitenbach, (and) Grant Winner. Many relatives and friends attended the burial.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucia Ray Zook, two sons, Millard and Lloyd, one daughter, Irene. One daughter, Marcella, preceded him in death ten years ago. He is also survived by one sister, three brothers, and numerous other relatives.
