Elger, Minnie Irene (Feb 11,1885 - 9 May 1930)

Mrs. John Elger died about 6:30 last Friday afternoon at the Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire following an operation performed April 27.

The remains were brought home Sunday and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the town hall, Rev. A. E. Knaak officiating . Many friends attended the services quite a number coming from other places.

Burial was in Mentor Cemetery. She was 45 years, 2 months and 28 days of age.

Minnie Irene, daughter of Thomas and Minnie Gregory, was born at Alma Center, Wis. Feb. 11,1885. She was left motherless a few hours after birth, and her grandmother, Mrs. Shatswell cared for her until her tenth year. At that time she was adopted into the family of Ed Burnett and lived with them for about five years. When fifteen years of age, leaving this family she lived with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shatwell in Houghtonburg, and attended high school in Humbird.

In 1906 she was married to John Elger, and to this union were born two children, one dying at birth and Minola.

Mrs. Elger’s life was devoted to her home and family. Her success in this is evidenced by the esteem shown her by those whom she cared for; her love for her step-children was as impartial as if she had been their own mother.

During the ministry of Rev. J. K. Peckham, about sixteen years ago, she was converted and lived a devoted Christian life. About eight years ago she was taken seriously ill, and since then she has undergone several operations and suffered intensely much of the time. She was conscious and prayerful to the last. Her loss will be keenly felt in her home, in the Free Methodist church of which she was a member, as well as in the community.

She leaves to mourn her husband, one daughter, Minola, of this village, three step-children Charles, of Rushville, Neb.; Paul of the town of Alma; and Mrs. Martha Cummings of Hawkins; three grandchildren; four uncles, Charles Shatwell; Fred Shatswell, Kalima, Wash.; Frank Shatswell, Buford N. D.; and W. E. Gregory, Alma Center; and many other relatives and friends.
