Winkler, Frank (1897 - 5 July 1908)

Died With Lock-Jaw

As the result of a Fourth of July accident considered insignificant at the time, Frank Winkler, the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Winkler, died at their home 117 north Maple street last Sunday of lock-jaw.

The injury which caused death was received the defective operation of one those infernal machines, the toy pistol for shooting 22-calibre blank cartridges. A piece of the blackened shell lodged in the boys’ hand and was treated with the usual home remedies and the wound closed producing just the conditions most favorable for lock-jaw, which set in last Saturday. In spite of all that medical science could do the boy died in agony the day following.

Joseph Winkler, the father of the deceased is a section foreman on the Northwestern Road, and the lad who was a bright little fellow, was the joy and pride of his parents - Marshfield Times.

Mr. and Mrs. Winkler were residents of this village until three years ago when they removed to Marshfield. They have sympathy of the community in the bereavement.
