Chatten, John J. (14 APR 1843 - 14 MAY 1928)

John James Chatten was born in Tennessee April 14, 1843, and passed away at the home of his daughter at Augusta, May 14, 1928, at the age of 85 years and 1 month.

At an early age he moved to Missouri, where he grew to manhood; later he moved to Richland Center, where he was united in marriage to Martha Ann Jewell, Oct. 12, 1865. In 1871 he moved with his family to Fairchild, and later to Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), where he lived until the death of his wife sixteen years ago.

There were five children born to them, three passing away in infancy. One, Mrs. George Springer, passing away a few weeks ago. The other daughter, Mrs. Alveretta Markham of Augusta, is left to mourn his death, besides 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Mr. Chatten has been an invalid the past eight years, and has been a patient sufferer.

The funeral was held at the Free Methodist Church last Thursday afternoon, Rev. Warn of Bloomer, officiating, and burial was in Mentor Cemetery.

Markham and daughters, Viva and Naomi, Earl Langworthy and family, Ardell Markham and wife, Arthur Zank, wife and son, Augusta; M.M. Phillippi, wife and son, Marshfield; Mrs. T.C. O’Grady and children, Merrillan; Mrs. Jerry Olson, Osseo; Geo. Springer, Ben Springer and wife, Harry Cole and wife, Peter Springer, Bloomer; Mrs. Wm. LaFave, Weyerhauser; John Springer, Eau Claire; Mrs. W.D. Beede and son Cecil, Merrillan; Lafe Lightfoot and wife, Jacob Lightfoot and wife, Fairchild.
