Rogus, August "Augie" W. (August 28, 1929 - December 3, 2002)

August "Augie" W. Rogus. Age 73, of Duluth, MN, formerly of Thorp, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital Hospice in Duluth after a lengthy illness.

August Walter Rogus was born on August 28, 1929 to John M. and Nellie C. (Szczech) Rogus in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp. He attended Colby School, rural Thorp, from 1935 to 1938, and then moved into Thorp where he attended St. Barnard’s grade school until 1943. Augie attended Thorp High School until his Junior year, when the family moved to Sheldon, WI. He graduated from Tony High School in 1947. He later attended Superior State College for 2 years.

Augie served in the U. S. Army from 1951-1953 in Japan, and after his honorable discharge, worked in Chicago for Railway Express until 1958 and then at John Plain Company until 1972. In 1974, he bought a paint store in Eau Claire, Colonial Decorating, and resided in Chippewa Falls. He retired in 1994 after 20 years at the paint store. Augie is a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Chippewa Falls. He recently moved to Duluth, MN and resided at St. Ann’s Senior Residence.

He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters, John Rogus Jr of Gordon, WI, Leo (Fran) Rogus of Mt. Prospect, IL, George (Marge) Rogus of Duluth, MN, Dorothy (Frank) Knapp of Carrollton, TX, and Joan (Jerry) Podgorski of Boulder, CO, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Theresa, in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp, with burial in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. rosary.
