Plansky, Richard "Dick" (September 19, 1934 - August 27, 2002)

Richard "Dick" Plansky, age 67, of North Hudson died Tuesday August 27, 2002 at Regionis Hospital in St. Paul following complications of a stroke he suffered Sunday.

Dick was born on September 19, 1934 in Wausau, Wisconsin; the son of Richard W. and Margaret (Kisslinger) Plansky. He received his elementary schooling in Thorp and graduated from Thorp High School. Following high school, he furthered his education by earning a degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technical University in Houghton, Michigan. Dick served in the United States Army for a short period of time. On August 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean Zink at St. Charles Catholic Church in Genoa, Wisconsin.

From this union, children David, Kathy, Karen and Marie were born. Dick worked many years as a mechanical engineer for the 3M Corporation prior to his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, Dick built the family cabin in northern Wisconsin where they shared many family gatherings.

Dick truly loved the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing whether catching pan fish or the trophy walleye on his trips to Canada. He also enjoyed hunting deer, elk, and turkey. Dick’s love of nature brought him to be an excellent wood-carver. His carvings of mounted fish or deer antlers could only be distinguished by a true outdoorsman. He took greatest pride in carving keepsakes for his grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his son David (Felicity) Plansky; daughters: Kathy (Tom) O’Keefe, Karen (Ross) Goulette, Marie Plansky all of Hudson; grandchildren Olivia & Sam Goulette, Amelia Plansky; sisters Marylin Plansky of River Falls, WI, Paula (Ken) Andres of Bellingham, WA; brothers: John and Jim Plansky of Thorp, WI. His parents and wife Bonnie on January 4, 2001 preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Friday August 30, 2002 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Peter Szleszinski officiating. Organist Elsie Sandquist accompanied the church Hope Choir while pianist Jodell Krause accompanied vocalist Deb O’Keefe. Burial was in the church cemetery with casket bearers being Roger Rickard, Don Papierniak, Peter Steele, Jim Smith, Roger Rebholz and Bill Skaare. Visitation was on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service and rosary at 7:45 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorials preferred.
