Martin, Hadassah F. (11 SEP 1843 - 13 DEC 1926)

The sudden death of George M. Ferguson, treasurer of the town of Foster (Clark Co., Wis.), and for many years a resident on a farm ten miles north of the village, last Sunday afternoon, was a shock to a large number of friends. Mr. Ferguson had not been feeling well for several days, but his condition was not thought serious. An abscess in his head was the cause of his death. Less than twenty-four hours after his death, his mother-in-law, Mrs. A.C. Martin, succumbed at her home near Fairchild, of pneumonia.

A double funeral was held at the Martin home on Wednesday afternoon, M. Kretschmer being in charge. Rev. Bliss of Augusta preached the sermon, and the services were attended by many sorrowing friends. The remains were taken to Fairchild, and thence to Illinois on the night train, Mr. Ferguson to Winslow for burial, and Mrs. Martin to Lena.

Hadassah Fair Garman, daughter of Peter and Susan Garman, was born in Indiana Co., Penn. On Sept. 11, 1843, and died Dec. 13, 1926, aged 83 years, 3 months and 2 days.

When she was eight years old she moved to Illinois with her parents and they made their home near Lena. She was united in marriage to Abdiel Colwell Martin, on Dec. 25, 1865, and they made their home on a farm near McConnell, Ill., where they lived until 1910, and then moved to Republic, Kan., for three and a half years. They moved to the place near Fairchild in 1914, where she died after an illness of five days of pneumonia.

Besides a host of friends and relatives, she leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Martha Viola Ferguson - to whom double grief has come in the death of her husband and mother a day apart, Mrs. Elsie M. Schramm, of Freeport, Ill., John D., Yuba City, Calif., Charles S. of Woodruff, and Minnie B., Susan E. and Earl W. living at home. One daughter died in infancy. She also leaves three brothers and two sisters.

In her youth she was a member of the Lutheran Church, but later joined the Methodist Church. She lived a consistent Christian life all her days, and was an affectionate wife and a loving mother.
