Linder, Robert (5 JUN 1870 - 7 MAY 1926)

The funeral of Robert Linder was held at the town hall at 2:00 o’clock last Monday afternoon, the services being attended by a large congregation of friends. The burial sermon was preached by Rev. C.F. Klein, and a long procession of autos followed the remains of this highly esteemed citizen to their final resting place in the Mentor Cemetery. The large number of floral emblems betokened the respect by which the deceased was held in the memory of those who had associated with him in his fifteen years residence in this community. Mr. Aebly of Monroe, father of the sorrowing wife, was the only relative from away present at the burial.

This sketch of Mr. Linder was read by the minister, at the services:

Mr. Robert Linder, one of a family of nine children, was born in Switzerland, June 5, 1870, and completed his earthly sojourn after a short illness at the at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, May 7, 1926, aged 55 years, 11 months and 2 days.

When 24 years old Mr. Linder came to America, stopping first in Milwaukee, and later moved to Green County, where he engaged in business at Monroe and later in New Glarus. He was considered an expert cheesemaker and followed that profession for many years. In 1904 he was married at Monroe to Miss Anna Aebly and to this happy union eleven children have been born, ten of whom survive their father; one boy died while the family was residing in New Glarus.

Mr. Linder is survived by his aged mother, three sisters, two brothers, his wife and ten children. One brother came to America and located in Milwaukee where he passed away a number of years ago. Another brother located in Argentina, South America, where he still resides.

The deceased was of a quiet and unassuming manner, yet he was a virile and progressive thinker and worker, a man recognized as one of the mainstays of the community. While a resident of Green County he joined the Odd Fellow Lodge and became one of the active workers in his lodge, occupying every chair at different times with much credit to himself He had not been active in lodge circles since moving to Humbird but remained always a true fraternalist at heart. At the time of his death he was School Director of Cleveland School District and was thoroughly interested in the affairs of his district.

There has come an irreparable breach into the circle of one of our best families. An esteemed citizen has gone. To his bereaved wife and grief stricken children there goes a sustaining message of sincerest sympathy.
