Snyder, Ella (29 Nov. 1849 - 21 Feb. 1939)

Ella Bailey was born in Milwaukee County, Wis., November 29, 1849, and grew to womanhood there. In the year 1870 she was united in marriage with Hamilton Snyder and the following year settled on a farm in the town of York, where they lived for many years. In 1904, they retired from the long, hard years on the farm and purchased a home on West Fifth Street, Neillsville, where Mrs. Snyder continued to reside until her death, which occurred February 21, 1939. She had reached the age of 89 years and three months.

She is survived by one son, Loren, of Duluth, 13 grandchildren, a niece, Mrs. William Sternitzky of Lynn Township and a sister, Mrs. Frankie Lauremann of West Bend. Two sons, Frank and Albion, are deceased. Mr. Snyder passed away in 1918.

Mrs. Snyder brought with her from the pioneer days that fine attitude toward friends and neighbors which made the hardships of that period endurable. She was widely known for her gentle and sympathetic nature and charming personality. Her faith and love of good literature kept her happy and contented. She was also well informed on current events through her reading of daily and weekly papers.

Mrs. Snyder was a member of the Clark County Press staff of correspondents for years and often stated that this publication came to their home since its beginning. Her church home was the Methodist church of this city.

During the last four years of Mrs. Snyder’s life, when she was no longer able to live alone, Mrs. Jessie Warner has been her constant companion and gave her the same loving care and attention which she bestowed upon her own mother.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:30 at Schiller’s Funeral home, Rev. E. P. Stone officiating. Three great nephews of the deceased, Joseph, Leo and Raymond Sternitzky of the town of Lynn; Otto Warren of York; Earl Campbell, Neillsville, and Alvin Vandeberg of York acted as pallbearers. Interment took place in the Neillsville Cemetery beside her husband.
