Wepfer, Annie (9 Dec. 1854 - 5 Feb. 1939)

Mrs. Ann Wepfer passed away at the Neillsville hospital Sunday, February 5, at the age of 84. She had been ill more than ten weeks. She fell in her home, fracturing her hip. Such was her vitality, even at her advanced age, that the fracture was healing perfectly, and she also recovered from an incipient attack of pneumonia. But she was weary with the labor of the years, and finally her heart, which had beat sympathetically with her family and her friends for so many years, stopped and she went to sleep.

Mrs. Wepfer was born in Berne, Switzerland, December 9, 1854. Her maiden name was Annie Steahli. She came to America with her parents at the age of 11. The family settled on a farm near La Crosse, Wisconsin. Here she grew to womanhood, and on November 7, 1881, she was united in marriage to William Wepfer, also a native of Berne.

The couple purchased a farm in Wood Township, Wood County, Wisconsin, where they lived for many years. Then they removed to Camden, Arkansas, and from there to Neillsville, Wis.

Five children born to them, four sons and a daughter. The sons were: C. J. of Bay City, Mich.; H. W. of South Haven, Mich.; A. G. (deceased); and E. A. of Loyal, Wisconsin. The daughter, third in order of the children, is formerly Wilhelmina, but is better known in Neillsville as Minnie. She is the person of longest service on the present staff of the Clark County Press.

The services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8. The ministers were the Rev. William Bixler of Zion Reformed and the Rev. G. W. Longenecker of the Congregational church. Interment was in the family lot in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral were: the three sons and their wives; the sister; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. A. G. Wepfer, and daughter, Marian, and son, Joseph, of Norwalk; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Hammond; Miss Elsie Anderson of Minneapolis, Frank Shannon, Mrs. C. J. Ryan; Mrs. Henry Rottier and Mrs. Warner Berry of Loyal, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Schweinler of Mosinee.
