Alice Mary Potter, age 68, of Stanley, passed away at her home on Otter Lake on July 16, 2006 in loving care of her family and Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was a lifelong resident of the Stanley-Boyd area where she owned and leased rental properties. On August 3, 1991 she married Russell Potter, who survives her.

Alice will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She savored life and on her terms, lived life to its fullest. She was a bowler, golfer and an avid fisherwoman. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, tending her flower gardens, and a lively game of "dirty clubs."

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Charlene (Ed) Brucek of Chippewa Falls, WI, Debra Pecha (Steve Black) of New Auburn, WI, Susan Hakes (Mike Anderson) of the Town of Layfayette, WI, Thomas Hakes (Denise Meacham) of Boyd, WI, Scott (Carrie) Hakes of Stanley, WI, and Doug Regal (Stephanie Sievwright) of Stanley, WI; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 14 step-children and her brothers and sisters: Charles (Karen) Walter of Eagan, MN, Arland (Nadine) Walter of Thorp, WI, James (Linda) Walter of Rockland, WI, Elaine (John) Wedell of Wautoma, WI, Richard Walter of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Ronald Walter (Donna Collins) of Rock Dam, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret Buttke, granddaughters Amanda and Lacey Konsella and grandson Matthew Hakes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, WI with Fr. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Stanley, WI. Friends called on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Plombon Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Looking back on the memory

Of the dance we shared beneath the stars above.

For a moment all the world was right.

But how could I have known you would every say goodbye?

And now I’m glad I didn’t know the way it would end,

The way it all would go.

Our lives are better left to chance;

I could have missed the pain.

But I’d have had to miss the dance.
