Frank Belknap, 72, for the past six years a resident of Stanley and for more than twenty years a resident of the village of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), was instantly killed late Friday afternoon when the car he was driving collided head on with a milk truck driven by Clarence Booth. Booth was slightly shaken up in the crash, and Beilknap’s companions in the car, Mrs. Josephine Rathgaber and Frank LaValle, were taken to the Stanley hospital suffering from minor injuries and cuts about the head.

Belknap, who was employed by a Stevens Point monument firm, had driven out in the country in the afternoon with his two companions, and was returning to Stanley when the accident occurred.

The two cars came together about a mile south of Stanley on Highway 29, as Booth was driving to his home, located a mile from the scene of the crash.

Mrs. Rathgaber is the owner of the Stanley house, the hotel where Belknap made his home, since the death of his wife some years ago.

No clear account of the accident, which happened about 5:30 o’clock, could be given by any of those involved. Belknap’s car, a coupe, was nearly demolished in the crash, while the milk truck suffered less severe damage.

Mr. Belknap was born near Eau Claire and spent his early life in and around that city. His parents came there from the east before there were any settlements of consequence yet founded. For a time he lived at Porters Mills and Eau Claire where he operated stores.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist Church at Stanley.

A daughter, Mrs. S.F. Frankenstein of Milwaukee, and a son, Thomas Belknap of Eau Claire, survive, besides three sisters and three brothers,
