Bentzler, Mathias (6 MAR 1856 - 8 SEP 1936)

Mathias Bentzler was born in Theresa, Wis., March 6, 1856 and peacefully passed away into the Beyond Tuesday P. M. September 8th. Old age with its complications being the cause of death.

On Oct. 23, 1883 Mr. Bentzler was married to Elizabeth Doll and to this union thirteen children were born, five sons and five daughters yet living.

Mr. Bentzler’s life was that of a farmer and in 1912 after living on farms in other communities he with his family settled near Loyal. When advancing years made it difficult for him they moved into the village and here for the past seventeen years has been his home.

A mile stone in the life of Mr. Bentzler was the celebration of he and his wife’s Golden Wedding anniversary in 1933 at which time their ten children were all home for the occasion. He was an obliging neighbor and friend. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and there on Friday at 9 A. M. requiem high mass was sung by Rev. A. J. Aurit and he was buried in the Catholic cemetery.

To mourn his going he leaves his wife, ten children, and eighteen grand children. The children were all here for the funeral, they are Sister M. Carmelita (Mary), Sister M. Carmella (Lucy), and Sister Rose Carmel (Laura) all from the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc; Mrs. Ed Wenzel (Pauline) Hartford, Wis., Mrs. J. F. Loos (Rose) DePere; Christ, George and Mathew, all of Loyal; and John and Pete, South Bend, Indiana. Through spiritual bouquets the relatives and friends made possible thirty Gregorian Masses as well as many other Masses.

The four sons and two sons-in-law acted as pall bearers.

Three brothers of Mr. Bentzler, together with their families attended the funeral, also two sisters and three brothers of Mrs. Bentzler, and many other relatives, in all fifty guests, all relatives, were served dinner at the Bentzler home before returning to their out of town homes.
