Welsh, Gene Catherine (Marriage - 31 Aug. 1938)

Miss Gene Catherine Welsh of Neillsville and Bert A. Wesley of Antigo exchanged marriage vows at St. Mary’s Catholic Church this Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock at a single-ring ceremony performed by Rev. J. A. Biegler.

The bride was attired in white net over white satin with finger tip veil and carried a colonial bouquet. She was given in marriage by her father, R. H. Welsh, upon whose arm she marched to the altar to the soft strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march, played by Mrs. A. C. Wagner of this city. During the offertory, Roger Wesley, brother of the groom, sang "Ave Maria". Mrs. Francis Welsh, sister-in-law of the bride, acted as maid-of-honor, her other attendants being Miss Edith Cartwright and Miss Marie Stein.

Mrs. Welsh wore yellow net over taffeta and carried yellow gladiolas, Miss Cartwright was gowned in pale pink mouseline de sole and Miss Stein was dressed in pastel blue net, both carrying pink gladiolas and delphinium.

The groom was attended by his brother, Giles Wesley, of Stevens Point, Francis Welsh, brother of the bride, and Att’y John Quinn, a close friend, were ushers. The main aisle of the church was decorated with white gladiolas tied with white Moline bows and baskets of mixed flowers were arranged on the altars.

Mrs. Richard Welsh, mother of the bride, wore black lace with white gardenias, and Mrs. John Wesley, the groom’s mother, was gowned in autumn green and also wore a corsage of white gardenias.

Mrs. Wesley was born in Neillsville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Welsh. She was graduated from Neillsville high school and from College of St. Teresa, Winona, Minn. She chose teaching as her profession and has been most successful in that field. She taught English and dramatics for a number of years as Arcadia and for the past several years at Antigo, and [a few words here blurred] when work was plentiful, she spent the summer months working in the First National Bank of this city. She has traveled widely and her ability to impart to her students the benefits she herself derived from her studies and experience, made her a most desirable instructor.

Mrs. Wesley, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley of Antigo, is a graduate of the high school in that city. At present he is employed as salesman for the Chevrolet Motor Co., of Neillsville, Wis. He is a talented musician, having had a wide experience as a pianist, which profession he followed for some time.

Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served to 50 guests at the Merchants Hotel and later a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. On the evening previous, Mr. and Mrs. Welsh entertained the members of the bridal party at dinner.

The couple left on a honeymoon trip to the northern lakes. Returning to Neillsville, they will be at home at 326 South Court Street after Sept. 15. For her going-away outfit, the bride wore a black velvet suit and hat with white accessories.

Their many friends wish them a lifetime of happiness and success and in these well wishes the Press most heartily joins.
