                         Bessie Meier

NEILLSVILLE -- Bessie Meier, 90, of Neillsville, died at 8:20 p.m. Aug. 2, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville, Wis.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18, 2006, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, Wis. Burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Aug. 18 at the church.

Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Bessie was born Jan. 14, 1916, in the town of Washburn to Mike and Rose (Kalas) Rizner. She received her education at Shortville School. She married Arthur George Meier on Nov. 3, 1934, in Neillsville, Wis. After marriage, they farmed in Neillsville and in March 1941 they moved to Crystal Lake, Ill., for 10 years. They then returned to Neillsville and farmed in the town of Pine Valley. In 1960, they moved into Neillsville, Wis. Bessie was employed at Memorial Medical Center for 37 years as a nurse's aide. She has resided at the Memorial Home in Neillsville since November 2005.

Bessie was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Arthur J. Meier, Neillsville, Ronald R. (Kelly) Meier, Rockyford, Colo., Annette F. (Ken) Blackburn, Janesville, Judith J. (Jerry) Quicker, Neillsville, and Raymond R. (Mary Jo) Meier, Neillsville; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is further survived by her brothers, William (Erma) Rizner and George (Nancy) Rizner, all of Neillsville, Wis.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Meier, in 1967; a daughter, Betty Dux; three grandchildren, Bobbie, Ronald Jr. and Julie Ann; her parents; four brothers, Anton, Emil, Frank and Ed; and one sister, Albie.
