Buss, Catherine (8 March 1854 - 6 April 1938)

Mrs. Joe Buss was found dead in bed early Wednesday morning, April 6, by her nephew; Herbert Brown, who has been staying on the Buss farm with his aunt for several years. The physician stated that she has been dead since about 3:30 that morning.

Funeral services will be held here Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joseph Buss passed away peacefully while she slept at her farm home in the town of Grant, where she had lived for 57 years, at 3:30 Tuesday, April 6, of heart failure. She had been ailing for about two years, but went to bed the evening before her death feeling unusually well.

Catherine Buss was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Brown March 8, 1854, at Stevens Point, and had reached the age of 84 years and 29 days. She came to Clark County with her parents 80 years ago.

On October 7, 1880, she was united in marriage to Joseph Buss in the town of Grant, where they lived contentedly until death. Mr. Buss passed away Feb. 14, 1937, at the age of 83.

In April, 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Buss asked their nephew, Herbert Brown, to come out and help them, being no longer able to carry on the farm alone. Mr. Brown helped care for his uncle in his last illness and remained with his aged aunt as long as she needed him.

Mr. and Mrs. Buss lived very happily on their 40-acre farm, enjoying the simple farm life to the fullest. On October 7, 1930, they celebrated their golden wedding. The gift sent them by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Brown for that occasion - a letter of congratulations and a five dollar gold piece - was retained in the family bible, Mrs. Buss often reminding the donor that she was saving it for him.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 9, at 2 o’clock p.m. at Lowe’s Funeral home, Rev. E. P. Stone conducting the rites, interment taking place in the Grant Cemetery.

Six nephews, Fred, Frank and George Vine, Richard and Edward Selves and A. A. Huckstead, acted as pallbearers.

Out-of-town relatives who come for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Forest Brown of Minneapolis.
