Wenzel, Anthony E. (22 July 1857 - 17 March 1938)

Anthony E. Wenzel was born at Saukeville on July 22, 1857, to Carl and Christian Wenzel, and passed away at 330 West 12th St. Sioux Falls, S. Dak., the home of his daughter at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 1938, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 25 days, after a lingering illness of about a year.

He was married to Emma Krause January 23, 1886, at St. Paul, Minn. The couple came to Neillsville and for more than 50 years continued to make their home here. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1936.

Being in failing health and no longer able to live alone, they went to Sioux Falls, S. Dak., last September to live with their daughter, Mrs. Elsie Hester.

Mr. Wenzel was a member of the Zion Evangelical Reformed church. He lived quietly throughout the years and in his work as a dealer in horses, he was considered strictly fair and honest, the same principle being followed in all of his dealings with his fellow men.

Those who survive are his wife, one daughter, Elsie Hester, one granddaughter, Mrs. Virginia Callahan of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., one great-granddaughter, Charlene Callahan, and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Schick of Muskegon, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 13 brothers and sisters, and one son, who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Lowe Funeral Home, Rev. Wilson M. Bixler officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hester and daughter, Mrs. Virginia Callahan of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. Roy Coffeen, Miss Amanda Leiske, Miss Louise Leiske, Mr. Carl Leiske, Miss Laura Dickerson, all of Milwaukee.
