Behnke, Cora A. (28 NOV 1879 - 5 AUG 1915)

Mrs. Cora A. Behnke, nee Zabel, wife of Gust Behnke, was born Nov. 28th, 1879, in the town of Lind, Waupaca Co., Wis. While still in childhood her father died. On March 30th, 1898, she was married to her surviving husband. She was blessed with 8 children, 3 daughters and 5 sons, of which the youngest is now two years old. After their marriage they lived in the town of Lind for about 2 years. From there the family moved to Phillips, Wis., Iola, Wis., and then back to the town of Lind. In June 1912 they settled down near Colby.

Mrs. Behnke was ailing before they moved to Colby. This spring she was taken seriously sick and has been failing ever since. She died last Thursday, at her home on the Unity road south of Colby, at 8:30 p.m., aged 35 years, 8 months and 7 days, consumption being the cause of her death.

The funeral services were held at the Lutheran Zion’s Church, last Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. C. C. Hartenstein officiating. Text of funeral address: Philippians 1:23.

She is survived by her husband, Gust Behnke; 8 children, Lillie, Florence, Alvie, Lyman, Violet, Edgar, Gordon and Melvin; her mother, Emilie Zabel; two brothers; three sisters and other relatives.

The remains were laid to rest in Colby Cemetery.
