Pitzenberger, Rev. Paul (21 JUN 1892 – 10 FEB 1971)

The Rev. Paul Pitzenberger, 78, of Eau Claire, a former pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.), died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire Wednesday evening. He had been hospitalized for the past six week following a hip fracture suffered in a fall.

A Concelebrated Mass was offered at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, and interment was in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Bishop Frederick W. Freking, Bishop of La Crosse, and the Rev. Gerald Schuh, pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church, were celebrants.

The marina Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Father Pitzenberger was born June 21, 1892 in St. Lucas, Iowa. He attended Campion High School in Prairie du Chien; St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, and St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1918 at St. Cloud, Minnesota.

His first assignment after his ordination was with an uncle, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Hauck, at Arcadia, in 1918. In 1921 he became pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, during which time the enw church was built. In 1933 he was transferred to Bloomer, and from 1951 until 1953 he was at Spencer, where in 1953 a stroke left him paralyzed on the right side. He retired and moved to Arcadia, where he had lived until 1960, when he went to Eau Claire. Father Pitzenberger celebrated his golden jubilee in the priesthood on June 9, 1968, while he was living in eau Claire.

Survivors of Father Pitzenberger include many nieces and nephews; and a housekeep of many years, Bertha Miller.
