Kroenke, Carl (18 JAN 1836 - 2 JUL 1914)

While crossing the railroad track at Lyndon Station, Wis., in company with another gentleman, last Thursday afternoon, July 2nd, 1914, at about four o’clock, Carl Kroenke, who formerly lived here with Herman Vobach’s family, was caught by the side of the engine of the Chi., Mil. & St. Paul coast limited train, and instantly killed. He was off the track, but not quite far enough to escape being hit. The engine carried him about 200 feet, dropping him on the depot platform. The train was reported to be running 55 miles an hour.

Carl Kroenke was born in West Prussia, Germany, Jan. 18th, 1836, and was 78 years, 5 months and 14 days of age at the time of his death. He came to America in 1881, settling in East Troy, Wis., where his wife died about 20 years ago, since which time he has made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herman E. Vobach. While living here he made friends with old and young, and will long be remembered by all as jovial and friendly Grandpa Kroenke.

He leaves to mourn his death one daughter, Mrs. H.E. Vobach of Lyndon Station, one son, Carl of East Troy, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His granddaughter, Mrs. Emil A. Fleischauer, and Emil went down to attend the funeral, which was held in the Lutheran Church, Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. Waccholz. The burial took place there, but the body will later be taken to East Troy and place beside his wife.
