Schutte, Robert M. "Bob" (December 1, 1919 - August 29, 2002)

Robert M "Bob" Schutte, age 82, formerly of Shawano, passed away Thursday morning, August 29, 2002, at Heartland Health Care Center in Shawano where he had been a resident for the past six weeks.

Bob was born December 1, 1919, in Neillsville, the son of the late John and Dorothy (Boll) Schutte. On November 27, 1941, he entered the United States Army and served until December 10, 1945. His duties ranged from tank mechanic to pilot in the Enlisted to Pilot Program. He enjoyed the electronics field and fixing things. Upon returning from the service, he was united in marriage to the former Helen Doege on June 28, 1947, in Owen, Wis. Following their marriage the couple settled in Neenah. He had been employed at the Soo Line Railroad for 34 years, spending the last 11 as the agent in Shawano. The couple had lived in Shawano since 1971. His wife preceded him in death in 1993.

He was a member of Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shawano. He was also a member of the American Association of Retired People and held many offices within the organization, including national delegate/representative and district director. He was also a member of the Shawano Golden K and Rustic Trails. He was a devoted member of the Senior Songbirds and participated in many volunteer events. He was also a sports enthusiast and loyal follower of the Wisconsin teams including the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.

Survivors include: one daughter, Karen Schutte of Green Bay; one son, Robert (Sarah) Schutte of La Crosse; one brother, Alvin Schutte, Neillsville; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Robert in death were an infant son, John Jay in 1964, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held today, Friday, August 30 at 6 p.m. at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, Shawano, with Pastor James Naumann officiating. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 31. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 4-6 p.m.

Memorials are preferred in his name for Divine Savior Lutheran Church.

Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano is in charge of the arrangements.
