Ball, Samie A. (21 MAY 1913 - 8 AUG 1975)

NEILLSVILLE, Clark Co., Wis. - Rites for Samie A. Ball, 62, of 1 Hewett St., Neillsville, operator of the Standard Service Station, taxi service and Coffee Cup Restaurant here, will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home. Mr. Ball died at 2:20 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been patient since July 27.

Officiating at Tuesday’s rites will be the Rev. Joseph N. Henseler, pastor. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-9 p.m. today and Tuesday morning. There will be a rosary service at 8 o’clock tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Ball was born May 21, 1913, in Orange County, N.C., where he received his education. He worked in various cities in the South as a service station operator and also served in Armed Forces during World War II.

He came to Neillsville in 1958 and purchased the Standard Service Station at the corner of Hewett and Division Streets in 1959. In 1969, he began Ball’s Taxi Service and the past three years operated the Coffee Cup Restaurant in the same location.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Ball married the former Mary Kammerer on May 18, 1963, at Neillsville, She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Ronald Gartner, East Troy, and Fred Gartner, McGregor, Iowa; two half-brothers, Lester Ball and Oliver Ball, both of Hillsborough, N.C., and five grandchildren.

Ball, Samie A. (21 May 1913 – 8 August 1975)

A Neillsville businessman for the past 16 years, Samie A. Ball, died August 8, at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield at the age of 62. Services were held Tuesday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Henseler officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The rosary was recited Monday evening at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, where the body of Mr. Ball was in state.

Samie Ball was born May 21, 1913, in Orange County, N.C., and was educated in North Carolina schools. Before moving to Neillsville in 1958, he operated gas stations in various cities in the South, and also served in the armed forces during WWII.

Mr. Bell purchased the Standard Station at the corner of Hewett and Division Streets in 1959, established Ball’s Taxi service in 1969, and, together with his wife, operated the Coffee Cup restaurant for the past three years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

His marriage to the former Mary Kammerer took place May 18, 1963, in Neillsville.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Ronald Gartner of East Troy and Fred Gartner of McGregor, Ia.; two half-brothers, Lester Ball and Oliver Ball, both of Hillsborough, N.C., and five grandchildren.

Ball, Samie A. (21 May 1913 – 8 August 1975)

Funeral services were held August 12 from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, for a Neillsville businessman, Samie A. Ball, who died August 8 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield at the age of 62. The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated, and burial followed in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were made by Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Bill Perrine, Earl Siebert, Matt Gasses, John Morganthaler, Ray Matz and Ben Schwellenbach.

Mrs. Glenn Short, organist, accompanied St. Mary’s Choir.

Among those attending the services were the following from out of town: Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Gartner, East Troy; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gartner, McGregor, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ball, Hillsborough, N.C. Mrs. Magdalen Kammerer, Dixon, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Moore, Sheldon; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schmoldt, Lake Forest, Il.
