Lyons, Mary (9 SEP 1913)

On Tuesday morning, Sept. 9th, 1913, at nine o’clock in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, midst hosts of relatives and friends, Rev. Artmann read the ring service which united in marriage Miss Mary Lyons, only daughter of Mayor and Mrs. James E. Lyons, and Anton Umhoefer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Umhoefer of this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.).

The bride, who looked lovely in her gown of white charmeuse trimmed with Chantilly lace, and a veil made more beautiful by a pearl coronet, entered upon the arm of her father as the "Melody of Love" was played. She carried a shower bouquet of lilies of the valley and white sweet peas. They were met at the altar by the groom and his best man, Isadore Firnstahl, of this city.

The other attendants were the maid of honor, Miss Clara Umhoefer of Colby, Misses Hildegarde Heid of Appleton, and Lareida Kraus of Fond du Lac, Messrs. Joe Weix of Beaver Dam and Paul Lockus of Neosha.

The bridesmaids wore white chiffon voile with yellow, blue and pink sashes respectively, lace caps and carried roses.

The church was tastily trimmed with white lilies and the colors of the Sodality, of which Miss Lyons is a member.

After the ceremony, a three course wedding breakfast was served at the Lyons’ residence, which was abundantly decorated with white asters and smilax. The guests, thirty five in number, were served by Misses Alma Harry, Pearl and Bernice Blanchard, Lona Firnstahl and Florence Shafer, of the Y.M.W. Bridge Club.

At one o’clock, four autos filled with guests followed the bridal couple to Spencer, where the latter boarded the train. The cars were adorned with sleigh bells, cow bells, placards, old shoes and other ornaments. The party enjoyed themselves immensely, with singing and the customary rice shower.

Mr. and Mrs. Umhoefer will make an extended tour, visiting Chicago, Niagara, Boston and other eastern points, returning by way of Toronto, Canada. They will be at home to their many friends after Oct. 10th, in the residence on Second St., which completely furnished, awaits them.

Mary and Anton have been with us most of their lives and it is with great pleasure that we wish these estimable young people the best that life can bring and give sincere thanks that they will remain in our midst.

The out of town guests were Rev. Wm. Reding, Grand Rapids, Wis.; Misses Larelda Kraus, Fond du Lac; Hildegarde Heid and Clara Bergeon of Appleton; Paul Lockus, Neosha, and Joe Weix of Beaver Dam.
