Thorn, Peter (28 NOV 1883 - 29 MAR 1914)

Peter Thorn of the town of Mayville, Clark Co., Wis., died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, at 1 o’clock Sunday morning, March 29th, 1914, of sarcoma of the spine, aged 30 years, 4 months and 1 day.

Deceased was born in Hartford, Washington Co., Wis., Nov. 28th, 1883. He came to Colby with his parents about six years ago. On Nov. 23rd, 1909, he was united in marriage to Rosa Apfelbeck of the town of Hull, Marathon Co., and soon after moved onto a farm in the town of Mayville, which he had previously purchased. He was a hardworking young man and was prospering nicely. In March 1913, he was operated for appendicitis, but failed to regain his usual health, and other complications set in, which resulted in his death, Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife and two little daughters; also by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Thorn of this city; two brothers, John of South Kaukauna, and Matt of the town of Hull; six sisters, Mrs. Henry Stillman and Mrs. William Piel of Marshfield; Mrs. Herman Glass of Milwaukee; Mrs. Henry Baures of the town of Hull, and the Misses Rosa and Margaret of this city, all of whom were present at the funeral.

The funeral was held from St. Mary’s Church in this city, Wednesday morning, the Catholic Foresters, of which order he was a member, attended in a body.

Other relatives from out of town present, were: Nick Thorn, and Matt Thorn of Hartford; Mrs. Lena Grittner of Kewauskum; Charles Redig of Milwaukee; Leondar Piel and Henry Lambert of Fountain City; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Redig, Mike Weber, Phillip Weber, Math Thorn, Wm. Piel, and Henry Duellman, of Marshfield.
