West, Hazel (22 July 1885 - 20 April 1936)

Hazel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Slocomb, was born July 22, 1885, in Neillsville, and died April 20, 1936, after a lingering illness.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband and eight children: James West; Rosa, Mrs. Wilbur Smith; Leland West of Mitchell, Nebraska; Fern, Mrs. George Kuehn; Beluah, Mrs. Ernest Reimer of Milwaukee and Daisy, Roy and Rica at home. She is also survived by three sisters and eight brothers, five granddaughters and one grandson.

She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid of the community for years. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed having her children with her nearly every Sunday.

The pallbearers and singers were all her classmates at the Reed School.

Funeral services were held from the farm home at 1:30 o’clock Friday afternoon and at 2 o’clock at the Pleasant Ridge Church with burial in the Grant Cemetery, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.

Those from away who attended the funeral are: Mr. and Mrs. John Broers and daughter and George Slocomb of Currie, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Slocomb of Page, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brossard and three children of Fox Lake, Wis.; Mr. Wm. Waterpool of Rice Lake; Mr. John Miller, Mrs. Maggie Berry, Mrs. Chas. Foster, Mrs. Clarence McMellon, all of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. William Waterpool, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Waterpool, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Bequette, Henry Bequette, Henry Waterpool, and John Waterpool, all of Fairchild and Mrs. Clarence Berry of Augusta.
